The way to send emails using IMAP is different from how you access them. In order to send an email all you need is the full message’s content and the recipient’s address. This is because IMAP does not (natively) support sending mails, it only works for fetching mail. Thus, if you want to send an email attachment, you should also be able to view the full body of the message, save attachments and even edit them directly in Google Mail:

  1. On your computer, open Gmail.
  2. In the top right, click Settings Settingsand then See all  settings.

3. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

4. In the “IMAP access” section, select Enable IMAP.

5. Click Save Changes.

6. Change SMTP & other settings in your email client.
